Hi All, It feels weird to write this without first acknowledging the fires in LA. It’s just tragic and sad on so many levels. My heart goes out to everyone that has been affected. [awkward segue] For most of my life, I’ve thought of myself as a visual person. Other people that know me describe me this way too. But after six months in Japan and a profound experience at Esalen, the visual has been joined by the aural. Listening is a gateway to so many good things. It takes practice, but the more I listen, the more I hear. The more I hear, the more I learn. Conversations get deeper, familiar songs sound new, and my surroundings are richer and have so much more to say. It’s addictive. As a few of you know, I’m the proud new owner of two turntables, two (super heavy) speakers, and a growing vinyl collection. I’m really interested the act of focused, intentional listening to sounds made by dragging a needle through a precise groove. So I’ll be schlepping my clunky analog sound setup to various places in and around CO to share my version of Art + Music. I’m calling it the Kissa Pop-Up, in reference to the Japanese tradition of gathering together to share food, drink, and music in a cozy, communal setting.
