Hi, I had a drum set for a short period in high school (borrowed temporarily from my dad’s friend), and I have wanted one since. But for several reasons — living in a small apartment in the city, or having small kids that need to sleep, it has never felt like the right time. Until now. It’s crazy to think that I waited 30+ years to finally do this. But at 50, I’m finding that being a beginner at something is more rewarding than ever. Apparently there are many health benefits to playing drums: increasing Alpha brain waves and happiness, synchronizing our logical left hemispheres with our intuitive right hemispheres to improve intuition, honing an ability to focus on the present moment and enter the elusive flow state, etc, etc. But what I’m most excited about is simply the process of learning something new, and seeing how that ripples out into other parts of my life + work. Oh, and also learning how to play Queens of the Stone Age. It’s going to take a minute before I’m ready to play any live shows, but it’s something I plan to do someday. Thanks for reading, Jamie
