Hi again,

As I write this, I’m on a flight to NYC. The woman sitting next to me is playing a slot machine app on her phone, and I’m wondering if it’s connected to her credit card. This is the second flight I’ve been on in almost two years, and it feels strange to be back on a plane, sitting in a chair. In the sky.

I try to get to New York every fall to see art and get inspired. This year, I have my daughter Bridger with me. As a seventh grader, art is not a part of her curriculum, which seems wrong.

Seeing art in person is an entirely different experience than seeing it online. It has a force field, a presence that can be felt. Standing in front of a painting will always be better than looking at it on Instagram.

My being on this flight today will create 0.9 tons of CO2. In order to stop climate change, each person on earth needs to create less than 0.6 tons of CO2, per year. How will we experience art if we can no longer travel to see it? How will art change for Bridger?

Thanks for reading,

Jamie

The Truffle Hunters has all the right ingredients for a great documentary: an intimate look inside a mysterious subculture, a cast of characters that are so real you can’t believe they’re real, moments that make you burst out laughing, and beautiful cinematography in a beautiful place.
