Hi + Happy New Year, In the week or so leading up to the 15th of each month, I try to notice what I’m thinking about most. Then I spend some time getting that out of my head and into words.
This week, I’ve been thinking about the haters. Since announcing the launch of OneClock, we have received a steady stream of nasty comments and hate mail:
”Sooooo, a fucking clock? Fuck you”
“Ahh yes simplicity for 3x the price”
”So.... it’s an alarm clock?... and this is revolutionary?”
“Nah, I’ll just go to Walmart and get one for $10”
“Are you brain dead? Take me off your list. May all your businesses fail” And then on January 6th, another group of haters stormed the Capitol. Those haters had combat gear and weapons, but they came from the same place — one focused on breaking stuff, tearing everything down. What do people get out of being so destructive? I don’t get it. I’d like to understand where this comes from. So I now keep a running list of the haters’ comments. I add to it and reread it periodically and try to understand their perspective, and the source of their negativity. Ultimately, it’s a good reminder that we really only control two things: our thoughts and our actions. Then I close the hater list, and get back to work. Thanks for reading.
